Organised Retail Crime

ORC: Hand Over Fist — Organized Retail Crime (ORC) is the evolving beast retailers must contend with, prompting them to question: “How much are you willing to give away?” The latest trends in Organized Retail Crime, like flash mobs and ready market-online selling, are almost as disturbing as the profits stolen. According to the Global Retail Theft Barometer 2011 “shoplifting and organized retail crime cost retailers $51.5 billion in 2011 (43.2% of total shrinkage)." And according to the annual Loss Prevention survey by the National Retail Federation (NRF), they reported an alarming “95% of retailers in the U.S. alone have been a victim of organized retail crime in the last year.” The most efficient way for retailers to decrease ORC is by implementing preventative solutions to deter, capture and eventually extinguish the threat.
